Series:     Our Covenant God Is...

Title:    " ...All About The New Covenant"

Speaker:     Doug Freeman

"The new covenant is God's revelation of who He is, and His perfect and complete plan to restore all who would enter into covenant with Him to their created purpose of intimacy of relationship with Him and with one another."

The cardinal error against which the gospel of Christ has to contend is the effect of the tendency of the human heart to rely on salvation by works.

~Charles Spurgeon

‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭1:1-3‬‬

Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world. He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power. After making purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high,

‭‭Jeremiah‬ ‭31:31-34‬‬

“Behold, the days are coming, declares the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and the house of Judah, not like the covenant that I made with their fathers on the day when I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt, my covenant that they broke, though I was their husband, declares the Lord. For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, declares the Lord: I will put my law within them, and I will write it on their hearts. And I will be their God, and they shall be my people. And no longer shall each one teach his neighbor and each his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord,’ for they shall all know me, from the least of them to the greatest, declares the Lord. For I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.”

‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭1:3-9‬‬

All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ. Even before he made the world, God loved us and chose us in Christ to be holy and without fault in his eyes. God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. This is what he wanted to do, and it gave him great pleasure. So we praise God for the glorious grace he has poured out on us who belong to his dear Son. He is so rich in kindness and grace that he purchased our freedom with the blood of his Son and forgave our sins. He has showered his kindness on us, along with all wisdom and understanding. God has now revealed to us his mysterious will regarding Christ—which is to fulfill his own good plan.

I.     The Parties IN Christ

‭‭Deuteronomy‬ ‭7:9‬‬

Know therefore that the Lord your God is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and steadfast love with those who love him and keep his commandments, to a thousand generations,

‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭54:10‬‬

For the mountains may depart and the hills be removed, but my steadfast love shall not depart from you, and my covenant of peace shall not be removed,” says the Lord, who has compassion on you.

‭‭John‬ ‭3:16‬‬

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.

‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭2:8‬‬

For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God,

‭‭2 Corinthians‬ ‭5:17‬‬

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.

II.     The Promises WITH Christ (7487 found in the Bible)

Romans 5:1 (TLB)

So now, since we have been made right in God''s sight by faith in his promises, we can have real peace with him because of what Jesus Christ our Lord has done for us.

‭‭Romans‬ ‭8:32‬‬

He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things?

III.     The Terms LIKE Christ

‭‭2 Peter‬ ‭1:3-4‬‬

His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence, by which he has granted to us his precious and very great promises, so that through them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption that is in the world because of sinful desire.

‭‭Romans‬ ‭8:29‬‬

For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers.

‭‭John‬ ‭13:34-35‬‬

A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”

‭‭2 Corinthians‬ ‭5:18-20‬‬

All this is from God, who through Christ reconciled us to himself and gave us the ministry of reconciliation; that is, in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting to us the message of reconciliation. Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God.

There is no more blessed way of living, than the life of faith based upon a covenant keeping God -- to know that we have no care, for He cares for us; that we need have no fear, except to fear Him; that we need have no troubles, because we have cast our burdens upon the Lord, and are conscious that He will sustain us.

~Charles Spurgeon
