Christmas Gift Giving Guide - "Gifts of Sacrifice"

Sermon Series: Christmas Gift Giving Guide
Sermon Title: "Gifts of Sacrifice"
Speaker: Andrew Webb

Giving Sacrificially.

1. Know God's MERCY and Respond

Romans 12:1-2
Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.

2. Know what God GAVE UP and Respond

Philippians 2:5-11
In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death— even death on a cross! Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

WAYS TO GO OUT OF YOUR WAY

1. Pay the PRICE of SACRIFICE

2 Samuel 24:24
But the king replied to Araunah, "No, I insist on paying you for it. I will not sacrifice to the Lord my God burnt offerings that cost me nothing." So David bought the threshing floor and the oxen and paid fifty shekels of silver for them.

WAYS TO GO OUT OF YOUR WAY

2. The inconvenient gift of SERVING

Luke 1:38
"I am the Lord's servant," Mary answered. "May your word to me be fulfilled." Then the angel left her.

WAYS TO GO OUT OF YOUR WAY

3. The inconvenient gift of RESPONSIBILITY

WAYS TO GO OUT OF YOUR WAY

4. The inconvenient gift of FORGIVENESS

John 3:16
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

Luke 23:33-34
When they came to the place called the Skull, they crucified him there, along with the criminals—one on his right, the other on his left. Jesus said, "Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing." And they divided up his clothes by casting lots.

Colossians 3:13
Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.

2 Corinthians 5:15
And he died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for him who died for them and was raised again.

Unbroken - Louis Zaporini on life raft for 47 days. Then became a POW. Freed and then addicted. Went to a Billy Grahm event and became a Christian. He returned to POW camp to discover that his captor had committed suicide. He now felt compassion and forgiveness to that captor.

Matthew 25:40
"The King will reply, 'Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.

The Power of Thanksgiving-"Be the One"

Sermon Title: "Be the One"

_____________

"There  is a danger for all of us who are often thinking forward, and that's the danger of forgetting to be thanking backward."

Luke 17:11-14
Now on his way to Jerusalem, Jesus traveled along the border between Samaria and Galilee. As he was going into a village, ten men who had leprosy met him. They stood at a distance and called out in a loud voice, "Jesus, Master, have pity on us!" When he saw them, he said, "Go, show yourselves to the priests." And as they went, they were cleansed.

BE THE ONE …

1. That RISKS the first step

BE THE ONE …

2. That RUSHES to respond

Luke 17:15
One of them, when he saw he was healed, came back, praising God in a loud voice.

BE THE ONE …

3. That RECIPROCATES with thanks

Luke 17:15-16
One of them, when he saw he was healed, came back, praising God in a loud voice. He threw himself at Jesus' feet and thanked him—and he was a Samaritan.

Luke 17:17-18
Jesus asked, "Were not all ten cleansed? Where are the other nine? Has no one returned to give praise to God except this foreigner?"

BE THE ONE …

4. That RECEIVES more

Luke 17:19
Then he said to him, "Rise and go; your faith has made you well."

His believing response connected his faith with Jesus personally! He did not achieve salvation by his faith response; he received it as a gift from Jesus.“
