Gospel Shaped Community

Don't Do Life Alone Series
Presenter: Matt Shires

"Therefore, brothers and sisters, since we have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way opened for us through the curtain, that is, his body, and since we have a great priest over the house of God, let us draw near to God with a sincere heart and with the full assurance that faith brings, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water. Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful. And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching."
‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭10:19-25‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Focus: Following Jesus was never meant to be an individual endeavor.

I. Our tendency will always be toward INDIVIDUALISM

II. DRAW NEAR, HOLD FAST, CONSIDER:
   1. Consider how to SPUR (PROVOKE) EACH OTHER ON
   2. Consider how to STAY PRESENT
   3. Consider how to ENCOURAGE

III. Following Jesus includes understanding that we are now PART of the BODY

Imaginary Me - Don’t Do Life Alone Series

Don't Do Life Alone

1/14/18 Jim Hammond

Imaginary Me

What do you want to be known for?

Focus: If I am always managing my image and people only know the imaginary me, I cannot grow.

I. We all have gaps between what we want to be KNOWN FOR and who we REALLY ARE.

   A. When we are IMAGINARY , all GROWTH stops.

   B. If we have no place to GET REAL, we cannot find REAL HELP.

   C. CONFESSION is acknowledging where we really are.

II. In small groups we can learn to be REAL.

Jesus-I AM

Jesus-I AM

Part 2 - I am the good shepherd.

Focus: If you want the good life, follow the good shepherd!

"Very truly I tell you Pharisees, anyone who does not enter the sheep pen by the gate, but climbs in by some other way, is a thief and a robber."

John 10:1 NIV

"Why is my language not clear to you? Because you are unable to hear what I say. You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father's desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies. Yet because I tell the truth, you do not believe me! Can any of you prove me guilty of sin? If I am telling the truth, why don't you believe me? Whoever belongs to God hears what God says. The reason you do not hear is that you do not belong to God."

John 8:43-47 NIV

"The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full."

John 10:10 NIV

I. He GUIDES

"The LORD is my shepherd, I lack nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for his name's sake."

Psalm 23:1-3 NIV

http://bible.com/111/psa.23.1-3.niv

"The one who enters by the gate is the shepherd of the sheep. The gatekeeper opens the gate for him, and the sheep listen to his voice. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. When he has brought out all his own, he goes on ahead of them, and his sheep follow him because they know his voice. But they will never follow a stranger; in fact, they will run away from him because they do not recognize a stranger's voice.""

John 10:2-5 NIV

II. He PROVIDES
