Love LIke Jesus, Week 2: "Wash Feet"
==========
"Wash Feet"
Speaker: Jim Hammond
Series: Love Like Jesus

What makes it hard for you to serve others?

Focus: If we want to live like Jesus, we need to love like Jesus.

I. The GREATEST among you will be your among you will be your SERVANT

Matthew 23:11
The greatest among you will be your servant.

John 13:1
It was just before the Passover Festival. Jesus knew that the hour had come for him to leave this world and go to the Father. Having loved his own who were in the world, he loved them to the end.

John 13:2
The evening meal was in progress, and the devil had already prompted Judas, the son of Simon Iscariot, to betray Jesus.

John 13:3-4
Jesus knew that the Father had put all things under his power, and that he had come from God and was returning to God; so he got up from the meal, took off his outer clothing, and wrapped a towel around his waist.

Hebrews 12:2
fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

John 13:5
After that, he poured water into a basin and began to wash his disciples' feet, drying them with the towel that was wrapped around him.

II. Those who EXALT themselves will be themselves will be HUMBLED

Matthew 23:12 (NIV)
For those who exalt themselves will be humbled…

Serving is not what I do, a SERVANT is who I am!
Serving isn't just about ACTIONS; it's about ATTITUDES.

III. Those who HUMBLE themselves will be themselves will be EXALTED

Serving is not what I do, a SERVANT is who I am!
Serving isn't just about ACTIONS; it's about ATTITUDES.

Matthew 23:12
For those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.

1 Peter 2:21
To this you were called, because Christ suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow in his steps.

Romans 5:8
But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

We stunk when Jesus served us.

John 13:15
I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you.

Do you want to change your marriage?
Serve your spouse.
Do you want to change your friendships?
Serve your friends.
Do you want more meaning in life?
Serve someone else.
Do you want to make a difference in the world?
Serve your community.
Do you want to honor Jesus?
Serve the least of these.

My dear Lord Jesus,
As the Father loved you, you loved us. It was because of love that you left glory behind to enter our world of darkness and sin to serve and rescue us, and yet you experienced the full measure of Your Father's love and joy while you loved and served. I want to love like you. I receive your love, and your joy, that I may love and serve others as you have loved and served me. Amen!

==========

Title: "Better Than Any Crutch"
Speaker: Doug Bridge
Series: Exponential

Focus:  Christ is better than any crutch.

Acts 2:43
Everyone was filled with awe at the many wonders and signs performed by the apostles.

Acts 3:4
Peter looked straight at him, as did John. Then Peter said, “Look at us!”

I. You can't GIVE what you don't what you don't HAVE

II. LEAN before you before you WALK

Lean On Me
Lean on me, when you're not strong
And I'll be your friend
I'll help you carry on
For it won't be long
'Til I'm gonna need
Somebody to lean on

You just call on me brother, when you need a hand
We all need somebody to lean on
I just might have a problem that you'll understand
We all need somebody to lean on

Acts 3:7
Taking him by the right hand, he helped him up, and instantly the man’s feet and ankles became strong.

Acts 3:11
While the man held on to Peter and John, all the people were astonished and came running to them in the place called Solomon’s Colonnade.

III. LOOK before you  before you LEAP

Acts 3:4
Peter looked straight at him, as did John. Then Peter said, “Look at us!”

Acts 3:19
Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord,

Dear Lord Jesus, Thank you for absorbing my sins, with your sinless life, and burying them, then giving me the victory of your resurrected life!  I turn to you.  I am sorry for my sins, I need your help.  I throw down crutches before you to cling to you, and lean on you.  You are better than any crutch.  I thank you.  I want to walk with you, leap with you, and praise God with you, to honor you and your Name.  Amen!

Exponential: Do Less, Be More

Welcome to Verde Valley Christian Church March 3, 2019

Title: Do Less, Be More
Speaker: Jim Hammond
Series: Exponential

Focus: Don't just DO something, something, STAND there!

I. WAIT

Acts 1:4 (NIV)
He [Jesus ] gave them this command: "Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me speak about.

Acts 1:5 (NIV)
For John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit."

· We tend to think ADDITION
· God thinks MULTIPLICATION

II. PRAY

Acts 1:12 (NIV)
Then they returned to Jerusalem from the hill called the Mount of Olives, a Sabbath day's walk from the city…

Acts 1:14 (NIV)
They all joined together constantly in prayer, along with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brothers.

III. BE

Acts 1:8 (NIV)
But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will bebe my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth."

God's Spirit Moves In
The Pastor Moves Over
The People Move Up
The Church Moves Out

John 12:24 (NIV)
Very truly I tell you, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds.

John 12:26 (NIV)
Whoever serves me must follow me; and where I am, my servant also will be. My Father will honor the one who serves me.

Dear God,
I wait for you. I don't want to remain a single seed. I want to lay my life down and experience your resurrected life. I want hidden roots that produce fruit. I ask for your move, and for your power. I will keep praying and depending on your power. Make me a witness of the realities, not merely someone who is aware of and talking about the formalities. I want to follow you and serve you. In Jesus' Name, and for his honor. Amen!
