You don't control every thought that flies into your mind, but you do have power over which ones you allow to land.
2 Corinthians 10:3-5 (NIV) >
4 The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds.
5 We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.
2 ways to take your thoughts captive:
1. Define your most consistent, anxious thought. Your stronghold.
2. You defeat a lie by replacing it with the truth of God's word.
Luke 21:24 (NIV) >
24 They will fall by the sword and will be taken as prisoners to all the nations. Jerusalem will be trampled on by the Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled.
Ephesians 6:17 (NIV) >
17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
Hebrews 4:12 (ESV) >
12 For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.
