Series: I'm That Fool
Title: "I Don't Like Discipline"
Speaker: Jim Hammond

Proverbs 1:7
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and discipline.

I. I have DISORDERED desires

CHOCOLATE 🍫

Hebrews 12:11
No discipline seems enjoyable at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.

II. Because my desires are often OUT OF ORDER

1 Corinthians 6:12-13
"I have the right to do anything," you say—but not everything is beneficial. "I have the right to do anything"—but I will not be mastered by anything. You say, "Food for the stomach and the stomach for food, and God will destroy them both." The body, however, is not meant for sexual immorality but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body.

WE don’t like discipline!

III. My disordered desires resist CORRECTION

Proverbs 15:5
A fool despises his father's discipline, but a person who accepts correction is sensible.

Proverbs 12:1
Whoever loves discipline loves knowledge, but one who hates correction is stupid.

IV. But REPENTING restores GOOD NEWS.

Revelation 3:19
Those whom I love I rebuke and discipline. So be earnest and repent.

He told them, "This is what is written: The Messiah will suffer and rise from the dead on the third day, and repentance for the forgiveness of sins will be preached in his name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. You are witnesses of these things. I am going to send you what my Father has promised; but stay in the city until you have been clothed with power from on high." 2. OUR OMNIPOTENT GOD'S GOT YOU

June 7th - 9th, 2025 WEEK 2 _______________ The greater our illusion of control, the higher our level of anxiety. When we obsess over things we can't control, we forfeit control over things we can control and we rob ourselves of the peace we could have by releasing control to God.  "Do you trust God is capable of control?"  Matthew 19:26 NIV > Mark 6:5 NIV > How do I release the illusion of control to an omnipotent God?  John 11:1-7, 11-27, 32, 43-44 NIV > Colossians 3:3-4 NIV > What is one area of your life you need to release control over?  What is God speaking to you through this message?  What is one thing you can do this week to live out the teaching?
